In the middle of our ordinary days, we are invited to pause and reflect on this truth: The peace we long for is not something distant, but someone present.
Scripture Reading
Isaiah 9:6 (ESV)
For to us a child is born, to us a son is given;
and the government shall be upon his shoulder,
and his name shall be called
Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
John 14:27 (ESV)
Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you.
Not as the world gives do I give to you.
Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afriad.
A Prayer for the Week
God of Peace,
You do not give as the world gives, so teach us to welcome your unexpected ways. Just as Jesus came into the world cloaked in obscurity, teach us to identify the hidden ways of your Kingdom.
When anger or anxiety arise in us this week, lift our eyes to see your promised grace. Teach us how to be peace makers, and anchor us in the peace that only your presence gives.
Amen.
Reflect
-
Can you remember a time when the peace of God's presence met you when you most needed it? What did that feel like? How did it change your perspective on your situation?
-
What could it look like for you to carve out time this week (even just a few minutes) to sit in quiet trust before God and invite him to offer you his peace?
