WEEK 6 | UNITY

How are we to be of one spirit?

  • Read and meditate on Romans 12:1-21

Guiding Thoughts:

  • The Church and fellow disciples of Jesus are called to be of one body. Both here in Romans and in 1 Corinthians 12, Paul goes into this metaphor that provides an effective picture of unity and diversity in the church.

  • The gifts and talents that believers have are not listed in any particular order. Teachers, Prophets, Encouragers, etc. are all called to be part of the body. The importance and overall topic is sincere love. Paul shows us how we are to love both those inside and outside the church. Christians are to love each other with the mutual love and commitment that are found in a healthy family.

  • We should be passionately serving the Lord together. We should have an enthusiasm about our faith and eager to fulfill the ministry to others within the church.

  • There are so many calls for the Church body and disciples of Jesus to follow here. In verse 16, Paul is specifically using the Greek word phroneō which means ‘to think’. He is stating the need for right Christian thinking when it comes to our relationships with each other. He calls us to not think arrogant things and think rightly.

  • He finishes this passage by calling Christians to be kind. A simple act of Kindness can often bring a hostile person to repentance before God and restore fellowship between people.

Questions:

  • Though not everything was touched on, what stuck out to you about the calling of the church body?

  • What are practical ways to practice Unity in the Spirit?

  • How have you seen the 6 attributes (Humility, Gentleness, Patience, Forgiveness, Love, Unity in the Spirit) build off of each other or work together?

  • Rereading Ephesians 4:1-4, how do you view Paul’s call to Walk Worthy?
