WEEK 7 | PRAYER FOR PROTECTION

Matthew 6:13

“Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.”

Temptation is complicated

“Temptation is a desire to engage in short-term urges for enjoyment that threatens long-term goals.” (Wikipedia)

When thinking of temptation it is important to note James 1:13.

“Let no one say when he is tempted, ‘I am tempted by God’; for God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does He Himself tempt anyone.”

God does not lead anyone into temptation. But God always provides a way for us to overcome our temptation.

In fact, 1 Corinthians states “no temptation has overtake you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.”

When you are tempted, pray and ask for God’s protection and guidance. He will provide it for you. But you have to be willing to follow His guidance. Remember there is always a way out, there is always a way to be faithful.

Pray for God’s protection

Sin and temptation are all around us, to have the strength to follow Jesus we must ask for God’s protection. The evil one will entice us to sin, but God delivers us from our sin. James 4:7 says, “Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” If you are struggling with something, turn to the Lord. Read the book of James, pray, seek answers from God. Pray for God’s protection over your life, your family, your neighborhood.
