Katie is serving with Samaritan's Purse in Iraq where she manages a mental health program. The goal of the program is to bring hope and healing to the Yazidi people living in the Nineveh Plains who were targeted by ISIS in 2014. Following the genocide of 2014, the Yazidis in the region have experienced significant mental health issues in additional to ongoing poverty and aftermath of war. The program attempts to provide a holistic approach including access to a psychiatrist, medication support, home visits, case management, workshops and ongoing training for staff and the community. We also have added a poultry component to our program as a way to support very vulnerable families with a small livelihood project and as a coping skill to help them deal with overwhelming hopelessness. There are many identified needs as countless Yazidi's were displaced in 2014 and are working to rebuild their lives. More importantly we desire that they come to hear and to know about the hope and healing that comes through a relationship with Jesus Christ.
